A Foundation for Everyone Who Believes in the Power of Reading
The Edubuddies Foundation NPC exists to open the world of reading to every child — through community generosity, classroom partnerships, and corporate collaboration.
We’re not just a CSI initiative — we’re a movement of ordinary people and visionary partners who believe that literacy is the starting point of transformation.
Corporate CSI & SED Partnerships
The Edubuddies Foundation partners with corporates through CSI and Socio-Economic Development (SED) funding aligned with the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice.
Individual & Community Support
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, donor, or company, your contribution helps rewrite South Africa’s literacy story — one Reading Box, one classroom, one smile at a time.
Watch our story
Before the numbers, before the projects — there’s a story.
A story about hope, imagination, and the moment a child realises they can read their own world.
This 3-minute film captures the heartbeat behind the Edubuddies Foundation — where literacy meets laughter, and learning becomes joy again.
The Heart Behind the Foundation
It started with a simple question:
What if every child, no matter where they live, could open a box that opens their world?
When we created the Edubuddies Reading Boxes, we dreamed of helping children fall in love with letters, sounds, and stories — not through worksheets, but through wonder.
But as orders began coming in, we realised something deeper: there are entire classrooms and communities where children have never held a book of their own.
Teachers are trying their best, parents are desperate to help — but resources are few, and hope is thin.
That’s when the Edubuddies Foundation was born.
To reach them, too.
Our Mission
To bring literacy, light and laughter to South African children aged 4–8 through story-based learning, teacher training, and community empowerment.
We believe that reading is more than a skill — it’s identity, confidence, and possibility.
When a child learns to read, something eternal awakens in them:
- They begin to see themselves as capable, powerful, and alive.
What We Do
1. The Reading Box Project
We deliver colourful, brain-based literacy kits — the Edubuddies Reading Boxes — to schools and ECD centres that can’t afford them.
Each box becomes a bridge between classroom and home — a spark of joy that makes reading playful again.2. The Phonetic Magnet Project
Each Phonetic Magnet Set turns a family’s fridge into a fun learning space — helping parents support early reading at home.
3. Teacher & Parent Training
We train teachers, caregivers, and parents to unlock the power of phonics, rhythm, and repetition.
When adults rediscover the joy of teaching reading, children follow their excitement.
2026–2027 Pilot Program: Proof of Concept
Our first national Proof-of-Concept Literacy Pilot launches in 2026, testing the full Edubuddies model in real classrooms.
We’re partnering with 3–5 schools, reaching 500 learners and 50 teachers through our Reading Boxes, Phonetic Magnet Sets, and Teacher Training Workshops.
The goal is simple:
To prove that early, playful, story-based literacy can transform reading outcomes in South Africa.
Each partner school will receive:
● Classroom Reading Boxes and/or Phonetic Magnet Sets
● Teacher and parent training sessions
● Ongoing feedback and reading progress tracking
Expected Outcomes:
● Improved phonetic awareness and reading confidence
● Empowered teachers and caregivers
● Replicable model for national rollout
- This is where South Africa’s next literacy story begins.

Why It Matters
More than 8 out of 10 children in South Africa cannot read for understanding by Grade 4.
That’s not a statistic — that’s a future slipping away, one syllable at a time. But we’ve seen what happens when a child sounds out their first word — eyes widen, a smile blooms, and suddenly, the world opens.
That’s the miracle we’re chasing, one box at a time.
Sponsor a Box (individuals & community)
Change begins with small, simple acts of generosity.
Whether you’re an individual who loves children or a company committed to literacy, your contribution helps a child step into their own story.
- Because the story of our nation depends on how we teach our children to read theirs.
● Sponsor a Reading Box — R1 899
● Sponsor a Phonetic Magnet Set — R160
